In just less a few days to go before the final showdown of Asian LeMans Series 2014 goes underway at Sepang. The teams have fought their way from Inji, Fuji, Shanghai and yes ultimately, Sepang.
This was the 1st ever mini Le Mans race that I have ever attended and yes the battle was intense and the distance between each car is quite literally millimeters! Just imagine the amount of concentration that’s required to continuously race like that for 3hours!
Apart from all the super cars they also have a LM P2 class. These cars are prototype cars and they are way much faster than the Aston, Ferrari, Porsche etc ~ It is hard to not admire the engineering work gone into building the car and the aerodynamic design of these machines.
Welcome Back! to this cosy cockpit and the simple instructions on the carbon monocoque chassis of these LM P2 cars. Its an experience not many will be able to fully understand but regular Sepang drivers can imagine the forces experienced when planning your foot down on the accelerator screaming down the Sepang front and back straight in a normally aspirated race car with a displacement of up to 5000cc or the turbocharged engine up to 3200cc.
Moving on from the prototype cars, there are several classes running in the Asian Le Mans Series and they are LM P2, GTE, GTC and GTC Am.
Team AAI kindly allowed me to hang around their pits while they prepared and get on into the race. They are the current point’s leader and the it is exciting to see if they will be able to continue their fantastic performance this coming weekend!
Apart from the main even, ALMS is also accompanied by Asian Cup and Sepang 1000KM
If you’ve yet to set plans for your coming weekend, come to Sepang to experience these cars and meet the drivers for yourself!
